200th Post - Name the Wedgie Contest & Giveaway

CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED

I can't believe 200 posts have come and gone! I'm pretty happy to have reached this little milestone with all of you.  Thanks for all of your support.

In celebration, we're having the contest/giveaway that I have been hinting about for several weeks. It's a pretty easy one.  It's called:

"Name the Wedgie"

My name is Wedgie, what's yours?

The Facts:  Wedgie can't go through life with such an undignified name.  He needs something a bit more pompous and grown-up sounding.  (Don't worry, he'll always be the Wedge - just not on his registration paperwork.)

I'm too cute for my own good.

So dear readers, your task is simple.  Come up with a name fit for a BIG boy.  It can be anything you dream up.  In order to help you out a bit, the way we usually come up with names for our registered horses is to make up a combination with the names of the dam and sire or even older generations.

For example, Wedgie's mama is Roulette Gambler and his daddy is Sunday Sailor.  So you can do something with these names or go completely in another direction.  The Lemon Verbena Lady  has suggested Phantom due to his mask-like markings on his face - very cool idea, btw.  Mr. MoonCat took that a step further to come up with Gambler's Phantom Sailor.  See how that works?  Play with it..

My mommy loves me, even when I'm bad
The Big Daddy - Sunday Sailor
If you want even more names to work with, Wedgie's granddams were Sunshine N Smoke and Sunny Miss Doc.  His grandsires were Patti's Gamblin Man and Sunday Butcher.  Since Wedge is destined to be a gelding and not used for breeding, his family names aren't critical, so have fun with making names up!

I'm going to leave this contest open until Monday, July 26th.  At that time, I'll get all the names together and run them by the boss (Dad) and see which name tickles his fancy and we'll have a winner!  The winner will receive a horse themed prize package. :)  Sorry, you won't win Wedgie - he'd be a pain to mail out to ya!

~~~~~
BUT WAIT, don't put your thinking caps on just yet!  We're also going to have a random winner just because I want to celebrate the fact that I've finally put more cards and new things in my Etsy shop and because you're all such a great group to have around!
If you are my lucky random winner, you will get to choose 3 cards from the store.  So there are actually 2 chances for everyone to be a winner in this contest and giveaway.  If you don't want to wait until the contest is over, I'm running a sale offering FREE SHIPPING when you buy 2 or more items. The sale runs through the end of July.
To enter the contest to name Wedgie, simply leave a comment with your name suggestion.  Don't be shy, Dad has a sense of humor too so bring em on.  Yours could be the one!
If you want to also be in the random drawing for the 3 cards, tell me which cards you would choose from MoonCat Farms Marketplace if you're the lucky winner.
Mandatory: You don't have to suggest a name to be in the random drawing, but you do have to tell me the cards you like best - I'm nosy that way.
Please be sure that you leave me a way to contact you if your email isn't attached to your blog profile.
Hodgepodge
Today's post is basically just that...a hodgepodge of things.  I have nothing profound or thoughtful to share with you today, but I have a couple of cool things to go on about:
Running Horses & Mules
My card was listed in a treasury on Etsy!  I was very excited to learn that The Homespun Loft had put together a collection of animal items and included my card!  I'm shamed to say that I've been neglecting my shop lately, but I am adding several items - hopefully this weekend..  Thanks to The Homespun Loft for including my card in her collection - I appreciate it!
~~~~~

The next order of business is to show you what came in the mail yesterday:

Elona of Wondrousthings and Elona's Originals sent this to me after my name was drawn as a winner from the Queen's Castle Bootique.  Isn't Boo Kitty adorable???  He reminds me of my PorkchopElona has some other darling Boo Kitty items as well as a really cute pincushion/piece of art:

I love Halloween and decorating for it.  For some very creative and fun pieces, be sure to check out Elona and the other great artists who all contribute to the Queen's Castle Bootique.  Thanks Elona!!!

~~~~~
And finally, here's the Wedge.  He was NOT wanting his picture taken today so I apologize for the crappy shots.  I was in a hurry and he was in a mood!
"Since I can't/better not bite you, I'll just bite my mama."
"You and your little camera are annoying me"
"Talk to the tails"
Have a great rest of the weekend my friends!
Dec Giveaway Day - Dec 2, 2009
UPDATE: THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED
Giveaway Day is here! SewMamaSew is once again coordinating an international blogging giveaway day. Earlier this year in May, hundreds of bloggers participated in this fabulous event. Readers get a chance to check out great "new to them" blogs and take a chance at winning some fabulous prizes. The bloggers get to have fun hosting a giveaway and are given the chance to be introduced to some new readers/followers.
That's all great, you're saying..So what can I win?? Well dear readers, old and new.. MoonCat Farms will be giving away 2 note cards from our shop - MoonCat Farms Marketplace. The winner will be given the choice of any two cards.
To enter, you just need to go to the shop here and then come back and let us know which two cards you would choose if you're our lucky winner. (You can always change your mind later.)
The contest will be open until midnight PST on December 6th. We will use the Random Generator to choose the lucky winner. Once we post the name, they will have 3 days to contact us with their shipping info or we will draw a new winner. We will ship internationally so all are welcome to enter.
Just be sure that we can contact you either through your blog or by leaving your email address in your contact info (if you leave it in the following format, you'll eliminate the risk of the spambots getting your email address): janedoe (at) yahoo (dot) com
Here's just a few of our recent additions to the shop that you might choose:
Good luck to everyone and thank you so much for coming by to see our little corner of the world. We hope you'll become a regular and keep up with the Meanderings of MoonCat Farms..
Mom Update & New Etsy Note Cards
UPDATE : Mom is still in the hospital, but has started her chemo. The doctors are very happy with her progress and how she is responding to it. She seems to have less of the side effects than she did back in 2005, so far. She's a trooper, my mama. I am very proud of her.
It is looking like she will be able to come home this weekend, after almost three weeks. This is great news since they had moved her to a hospital that was about 20 miles further away earlier this week which made it about an 80 mile round trip visit. I try to keep her company almost every day so this extra drive has been taking its toll both physically and financially. So please continue your great thoughts and prayers and know that our family really appreciates it.
Also, thank you all for the great comments on Dad's birthday post. He was really getting a kick out of the response (after I got in trouble for calling him crotchety...)
I've found a few minutes again to list more of my note cards on my Etsy shop . I am slowly getting them added a couple at a time. Check them out and let me know what you think. I'd really love some feedback. You can click the link above or on each photo to take you to that page.
MoonCat Farms Marketplace
MoonCat Farms Marketplace finally has something in it! I got off my rear and found some time to list some of the note cards that I've made from some of my photographs. The three shown above are the first up. I will be adding more over the next few days. All of them are also available as prints. My Etsy shop also has a couple of the flower pincushion/sachets that I made.
I would love to hear what you think!
Sewn Giveaway & MoonCat Farms Marketplace Grand Opening
I am participating in another giveaway by bloggers. This is such a fun way to get to know others from around the world. I made some very nice new friends from the first giveaway I participated in and was excited to be told about this one!
This event has been coordinated around the launch of an exciting new website for sewers called Sewn http://www.sewn.net.au/ . It will be making its debut in June, but the creators have decided to have a Blog Launch Party to get the momentum rolling. Many different bloggers are participating and giving away some great prizes in a drawing on their site. Anyone can enter or be involved. The drawings will take place on June 8th. What a fun way to launch this much-needed website for the sewing community. Please be sure to check them all out and sign up for the launch of Sewn!
To enter my drawing, just leave a comment at the end of this post. If you are an email subscriber or follower, you get a 2nd entry into the drawing! I will draw the winner on June 8th and post the name here. Please be sure that I have a way of contacting you if you are my lucky winner!
Now, what the heck am I giving away?? I will be giving away one of my original Spring Flower Pincushion/Sachets. This little beauty can be used as a practical & pretty pincushion or to scent a closet or drawers with the lovely lavender. It is made using 100% cotton material and is stuffed with ec0-friendly fiberfill and organically grown lavender from right here on our place. I really enjoy making these as they are a bright, happy addition to anyone's sewing box and they smell heavenly! (I do make them unscented as well for those who can't tolerate scents.) This little flower is in shades of purple and lavender.
This whole diatribe leads into my next announcement as these little pincushions are one of my first creations to be offered in my new Etsy shop!
I am so happy to finally be able to announce a date for the Grand Opening of my new online Etsy shop. I have been working on all of the tiny little details and getting some of my items photographed so that I can get it launched. So, on June 15th, my new shop: MoonCat Farms Marketplace will officially be open for business! Yeah, finally!! It has taken some time, but I am hoping it will be worth it. We are starting small, but will be expanding on a regular basis as new creations take shape.
I am planning on another drawing or giveaway to celebrate this great step forward for MoonCat Farms and our new Marketplace.
If you want to be kept current on our progress and the happenings here at MoonCat Farms, please sign up on the right hand side of the page. We have lots of options to choose from and that way you won't miss out on our drawings and more fun stuff that we have in the works!
