Favorite Guest

We've decided to not let our current house guest go home. We are kidnapping her.

We are enjoying the heck out of her visit. She is fun and entertaining. We don't have to cook for her, she eats what we put in front of her happily. She doesn't complain, doesn't care what the house looks like or what time we roll out of bed in the morning. She doesn't pass judgement on anything we say or do and just enjoys being with us. I've decided to keep her, she is the perfect company!

Meet Abby:

Abby (aka Lady of the Abbey) is my sister's newest addition. Sis calls my dogs her "dogphews", but I'm not quite sure how to combine niece and dog.

Miss Abby is visiting her Auntie and Unk while Sis and the family are at Disneyland this week. Mr. MoonCat and I were supposed to go on the trip with them, but with Mom's health so poor (she is back in the hospital again as the fluid has built back up in her lungs very quickly), we couldn't be that far away from her. We insisted Sis continue with the trip as it is #1 nephew's first time with Mickey Mouse. #1 niece hadn't been in 10 years so she was due also. We're very bummed to have missed it, but there will be other chances to go play with them, hopefully soon.

Little pooch felt right at home the first day she arrived. Pretty much took over the house and all of the inhabitants. Unfortunately, Porkchop hates her. His little nose is out of joint because Abby likes to sit on my lap just as much as he does. He can bully the other cats & dogs, but not Abby Sue. It's been a nightly battle to see who gets there first and can claim the space for the evening. So far they're 2-2.

So, we're moving. No forwarding address. Sorry Sis, Abby decided to go with us. You can't have her back! (Porkchop is sending you directions now...)

Critter Corner - Porkchop

I can't believe it is 95 degrees today! We got a brief little dose of Spring for a couple of very short weeks & now we are in the nineties! I'm not ready for the heat. I still have winter clothes and space heaters out and about. I had to run out early this morning and make sure my little herblings and veggies had a drink before the temperature soared. Just 5 days ago, there was frost on my windshield when I left for work.

I had promised an introduction to my little punky Porkchop and am finally getting around to it (mostly because I'm sitting in the cool living room this afternoon waiting for the sun to go down before going back outside to the garden..also because he is sitting on my lap at the moment, helping me with the laptop.)

Porkchop (aka Punkers, Punkydoodles, Porklet, etc.) is my 3-legged, blind in 1 eye baby. My vet calls him my little trauma kitty because he also has flea allergy dermatitis and a penchant for fighting with another of my cats, Badger (when he isn't snuggling with him).

At the same time, he is the biggest baby and gets very upset when he can't wallow around in my lap and drool. He is such a charmer, he greets me at the door when I come in, usually with one of his toys. He loves several of the toys that I have made him, especially those with our catnip. It drives him nuts!! It's like kitty crack. I have plans to put these kitty toys and our catnip on our site for sale in the very near future. Porkchop wants to share his favorites with the feline world.

Punkers is a cuddler and sleeps on top of me (or even the hubby at times) every night. Which brings to mind his latest nickname - Chunkapunk. When we had him neutered his weight tripled (at least). It's funny, because he is the most active & spastic cat we have. He gets to cruising up and down the tiled hallway at full speed in his little, lopsided galloping gait! His only clue that he isn't the same as the other furfaces is the fact that he can't leap to the top of the kitty tree in a single bound! Hubby made him a custom one so he can reach the top and rule from his perch near the ceiling anyway. And even though he is one of the smallest (except in poundage) of the critters in our home, Punky definitely rules!

Please spay and neuter your pets. I support the NSAL and their many programs to help end the pet overpopulation problem. Please click here for more information. SPAY-USA - a program of the North Shore Animal League

Critter Corner - Chandler

This will be the first of many posts regarding the 4-legged (and one with 3) creatures that call MoonCat Farms home. Michael and I have a deep love for animals and would have more if we had the space and were insanely rich!

My dad has always said that if animals & kids don't like a person, you need to wonder why. Proof that Michael and I were destined to be together was given to us by Ding, Dad's anti-social and extremely rude cat. (Sorry, no photo - I wasn't kidding about the anti-social part) He hates pretty much everyone except for Dad & I, but he decided it was true love with Michael and began mauling him right away. Dad decreed that Michael was a keeper because Ding liked him. Can't argue with that logic...

Now on to the largest of our herd.. Introducing Chandler (Bing)

Chandler is a 2 1/2 yr old Catahoula/Plott Hound mix. He is a BIG baby, weighing about 100 lbs now. He is a big lover who enjoys lounging, chasing butterflies, and stopping to smell the flowers (and then unfortunately - for his momma - eating them.) The picture above was taken when I caught him chowing down on all of my lovely pansies. You can see the lone survivor behind him. He enjoys roses and strawberries as well. Not only do I deal with the birds, bugs, and hubby stealing my produce..I also have this brute who "helps" me in the garden.

He has a real love of sleeping on our bed even though he has a wonderful doggy bed of his own. His best friend, besides our other dog Calien, is Celie the Siamese kitty. When she was a tiny little kitten about the size of his ear, she decided that he was her hero and that she had to sleep on him and pounce on him whenever she could. He gives her slobbery baths and cuddles up with her at night. It's really cute to see this tiny little cat and her big protector all snuggled together.

Even with his plant-stealing issues, Chandler is a great dog. He is very smart and fiercely protective of both Michael and I and his kitties. He has become a very good watch dog around the place, letting us know right away if there is anything amiss or if we have visitors. I highly recommend this mix of breeds as you get the best of both the Catahoulas and the Plott hounds.

There are several of these dogs with this particular mix available for adoption on the website: http://petfinder.com/ I am seriously considering another one for us as we are so happy with our Chandy.. (and yes he's named after THE Chandler Bing from "Friends". We were having a hard time coming up for a name for our puppy when we were watching TV one night. He was sitting between us on the couch and something caught his attention on the screen. He had the exact same silly, surprised look on his puppy face that Matthew Perry had on the TV. So we had our name! Of course, Chandler is my favorite of the "Friends" guys, so that helped..)

In our next installment of Critter Corner, you will meet the 3-legged, blind in 1 eye..Porkchop..
